Biography
Vivien is on the Specialist Register as Consultant in Plastic Surgery and her practice at Wythenshawe Hospital is focused particularly on hand and wrist surgery with additional interests in developmental breast disorders.
Specific clinical services are offered in Hand and Wrist disorders with particular clinical expertise in ulna sided wrist pain problems including referrals from other experts in the field. Vivien undertakes the APTIS joint replacement for DRUJ disorders. She runs specialist clinics for wrist and rheumatoid arthritis. She has extensive experience in complex post-trauma reconstruction.
Vivien is committed to the multidisciplinary approach to clinical care and is in a position to offer a service with close links to other expert clinicians and to a highly dedicated and nationally renowned hand therapy team who work alongside the hand surgeons — ensuring that patients get the highest standard of care.
Vivien is Clinical Academic Professor of Plastic Surgery with the University of Manchester having particular interest in the applied anatomy and biomechanics of the distal radioulnar joint and forearm unit. Vivien lectures nationally and internationally on hand and wrist surgery topics. She has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and is former Editor of the European Journal of Hand Surgery.
Vivien has a major commitment to teaching and training of surgeons having acted as the SAC Chair for Plastic Surgery (national training lead) and was President of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand in 2015. She has led the development of the national curriculum for plastic surgery and that of the Hand Diploma (BSSH/University of Manchester) defining the standard of consultant level hand surgery practice in the UK.
