Biography
James Bedford is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgeon and is currently Clinical Director for Burns & Plastic Surgery at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He joined the department in 2018 following training in plastic and hand surgery in the North West, followed by a National Advanced Training Fellowship in Hand Surgery in Leeds. Beyond Manchester, Mr Bedford is the current chair of the hand trauma committee for the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, and was elected Honorary President of the British Association of Hand Therapists for 2024.
His special interests are in children's hand surgery and nerve surgery including brachial plexus injury and spasticity. He undertakes specialist clinics for the Greater Manchester Brachial Plexus service, the Children's Hand, Elbow and Shoulder Surgery (CHESS) service, and at the Specialised Ability Centre.
Mr Bedford enjoyes collaborating with surgeons in diverse specialties including orthopaedics, neurosurgery, general surgery and cardiothoracics for patients who require complex soft tissue reconstruction.
